Scam Emails - Exposed!
We have all been on the receiving end of scam emails; some are hilariously bad whereas others are sneakily well written lulling us in to a false sense of security. However it is amazing that some of these scams are even still circulated, for I am sure no one, except Danny Wallace in his book ‘Yes Man’, has ever replied to any of them. However, on a completely unrelated note we at the Orchid Box office just today received a fantastic business proposition from a Doctor Daniel Kwesi from Ghana, and would love to share it with you- Attn; This is quite obviously a scam for many reasons. Firstly the language screams ‘SCAM’, the broken, muddled English is a clear sign, there is no chance I would send money to ‘enable us develops our mining sites’. Also the old-fashioned formal phrasing such as ‘your good self’ is more than slightly suspicious. Admittedly there have been much worse cases of odd English phrases being used, such as the emails many of us received beginning ‘Compliment of the season’ Who in what century has ever used this phrase?? Yet somehow it seems to be a popular greeting amongst our Nigerian counterparts. However, we decided to double check this email and give ‘Doctor’ Daniel Kwesi the benefit of the doubt He could after all be selling actual gold dust and we would not want to miss out on such a rare business opportunity...we found that there are indeed small scale miner groups all across Ghana, created under the auspices of the German non-governmental agency, Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) and the World Bank. Apparently they are characterised ‘by lack of capital and minimal use of appropriate technology in the mining and treatment of the minerals into finished products’ which seems to make very little sense. Suggesting that perhaps someone has been creating badly written articles just in case you decide to check up on Mr Kwesi's cause. Also just because these miner groups exist does not mean you should send your money to Mr Kwesi’s ‘Head Office’, which I suspect will resemble more a ‘Cow Shed’, than any office we've ever seen. Another problem with the email is that the company has no name, it is just ‘small scale miner groups’, so who would you make your cheque for gold out to? Also the email address we are given at the end is a g-mail account, which doesn’t exactly evoke confidence in you to invest in their business. And last but not least the man is selling gold! Who in the world sells gold by email? Well Doctor Daniel Kwesi apparently, who, if the MySpace page of that name is correct, is 23 years old, from Ghana, and is a Libra. Also his only friend is Tom, the MySpace man. I cannot help but be sceptical as I suspect that if the ‘Doctor’ was actually selling gold he might have more than one friend...
