A man with a history of domestic abuse has admitted murdering his former partner a day after learning she had begun another relationship.
Lee Inglis pled guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh to stabbing Stacey Hogg to death in her home in Hawick earlier this year.
BBC Scotland News has learned that the 39-year-old had twice avoided prison for previous knife attacks on the mother of three.
He was still serving a home curfew and an unpaid work order when he killed the 35-year-old in June.
He waited until his curfew ended at 07:00 before making the three-minute journey from his parents' home to Stacey's house.

The court heard that he slipped in through the back door and attacked Stacey as she came down the stairs.
She suffered "catastrophic wounds" to her neck and head. Police found her in a pool of blood on a downstairs bathroom floor.
The court heard that when he was arrested by police he told them: "I intended to cut off her head."
"If I couldn't have her, nobody would," he added.
Inglis had a history of domestic abuse against his former partner.
He was sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work in 2022 for assaulting Stacey and threatening to kill her with a kitchen knife.
Court records show he admitted injuring her by putting his hands around her neck and causing her to fall to the ground and strike her head.
He avoided prison again last year after being convicted of holding a knife to her throat and cutting her face.
He was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work, two years of supervision and a night-time home curfew.
The Border Telegraph, a local newspaper, reported that Sheriff Peter Paterson said at the time that the offence met the threshold for custody.
But he took into account the "complex family dynamic" and that the victim was opposed to a non-harassment order being imposed.
