Police searching for the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was found on a north Wales shoreline have set up a special phone line, urging her to contact them.
A member of the public found the body on the Menai Strait shoreline near Siliwen Road in Bangor, Gwynedd, on Sunday shortly before 17:00 BST.
In an update on Thursday, North Wales Police said a post-mortem examination revealed the newborn was a girl, adding that she may have been in the water for up to a few weeks.
Supt Llinos Davies from North Wales Police said a specialist would take a call from the woman directly and could support her confidentially and told the woman not to be afraid to speak to the police.
"We understand that you may be scared to come forward, but we urge you to contact us," Davies said.
"I want to reassure you that your welfare and safety continues to be our priority and utmost concern and that you receive any medical attention and support you may need.
"Whatever has happened, you do not have to face this on your own," she added.
The director of midwifery and women's services for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Fiona Giraud last week also appealed directly to the mother to come forward.
Davies said a trained specialist whose role was "simply to listen, understand, and help" would speak to her.
"This is not a conversation you need to be afraid of. You will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect.
"If making that call feels too difficult, please consider telling somebody you trust. A friend, family member, neighbour, healthcare professional, or anyone who can help you reach out."
The phone number is to strictly only be used by the mother to seek specialist help, North Wales Police said.
"We are concerned the baby's mother may not be in a position to reach out for support, so we are appealing directly to her, the father and those who may have knowledge, such as friends, family, neighbours or colleagues, to contact us," Davies said.
She added that all names provided would be treated "with the utmost discretion" and urges people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.
Officers are appealing to anyone who routinely walked in the Siliwen Road and Ashley Fields areas of Bangor between 30 August and 27 September to come forward.
They are also asking for any photos or videos taken in and around the Menai Straits shoreline in Siliwen within the same time frame to be uploaded to the force's major incident public portal.
